Ants are common insects, but they have some unique capabilities. More than 10,000 known ant species occur around the world. They are especially prevalent in tropical forests, where they may be up to half of all the insects living in some locations. Ants are able to communicate and cooperate effectively by using chemicals known as “pheromones.” Through these chemicals, ants are able to send simple messages to their fellows, alerting them to danger or indicating when food has been located.
Bed bugs usually bite people at night while they are sleeping. Hungry bed bugs may also feed during the daytime, especially if this is when the occupant normally sleeps. They feed by piercing the skin with an elongated beak through which they withdraw blood. Engorgement of the bed bug takes roughly three to 10 minutes, but because the bite is painless, the person seldom realizes they are being bitten. Bed bugs normally do not reside on people like head or body lice do; instead, immediately after feeding, bed bugs crawl to a secluded location to digest their meal.
There are three kinds of bees in a hive: Queen, Worker and Drone.
Only the Queen in the hive lays eggs. She communicates with her hive with her own special scent called pheromones. The queen will lay around 1,500 eggs per day.
The worker bees are all female and they do all the work for the hive. Workers perform the following tasks inside the hive as a House Bee: Cleaning, feeding the baby bees, feeding and taking care of the queen, packing pollen and nectar into cells, capping cells, building and repairing honeycombs, fanning to cool the hive and guarding the hive.
Each year thousands of dollars are spent to clean up after the mess made by urban pest birds. Pest birds such as pigeons, crows and gulls love to use building surfaces to land, roost and build their nests. Bird feces is acidic and will quickly erode building materials; carrying any of 60 transmittable diseases. To prevent the spread of disease and prevent property damage, it is important to install some sort of bird control system before the bird problem gets out of control.
Most homeowners are aware of the health and safety risks associated with cockroach infestations, including the allergies and asthma triggered by cockroach allergens, and the germs and bacteria they have been known to spread. To get rid of cockroaches in your home, we suggest keeping food sealed and stored properly, particularly in the kitchen.
Fleas are common external parasites of both dogs and cats. The adults are ravenous blood-feeders, consuming up to 15 times their body weight in blood per day. Pets initially become infested when adult fleas occurring indoors or outdoors jump on the animal. With the ability to jump vertically up to about 6 inches, the adults can easily hitch a ride onto a passing dog or cat, or even the shoes and pant legs of a human.

Rats are some of the most populous mammals on the planet, found in nearly all areas that humans inhabit. Like mice, many rats have a commensal relationship with humans, depending on us for food and shelter. Two species of rats are most prevalent in North America - the Norway rat and the Roof rat - both of which cause significant damage to homes, farms and businesses.
Silverfish are not predators and do not eat other insects. They require starches to survive and their bodies need carbohydrates and protein to survive. Silverfish seek out substances high in both of these. That means they will eat fabric, clothing, paper, glue, carpeting, hair, photos, plaster, wallpaper and other materials.
Spiders are air-breathing arthropods that have eight legs and chelicerae with fangs able to inject venom. They are the largest order of arachnids and rank seventh in total species diversity among all orders of organisms. All spiders produce silk. One species is mostly vegetarian. Spiders are nearsighted, females can lay up to 3,000 eggs at one time
Termites are rich in iron, calcium, fatty and amino acids, and proteins, making them a highly nutritious food. Termites never sleep. They build their colonies 24 hours a day, every day, until they die. The largest termite colony ever recorded contained over three million termites.
